About

We built Dialed because studying is broken.

Most people study the way they were taught — and that way is fundamentally misaligned with how memory actually works. We’re changing that.

Our belief

Learning isn’t a personality trait. It isn’t a “learning style.” It isn’t something you’re good at or bad at.

It’s a set of biological processes. And science has mapped them well enough that any person, with the right tools, can learn far more than they think they can — and remember it far longer than they think they can.

The techniques are settled: active recall, spaced repetition, interleaving, desirable difficulties. They’ve been peer-reviewed, replicated, and meta-analyzed for decades. The gap isn’t knowledge. The gap is a product that actually uses them.

What we’re building

Dialed is a study app designed around a single question: what would the study app look like if it were built entirely on what cognitive science has proven?

Not flashcards as storage. Not notebooks with better search. Not another AI summarizer. A retrieval-first, spacing-native, attention-honest loop that makes the methods researchers have been teaching for 40 years accessible to anyone.

Our principles

Why now

The average attention span on a digital screen has fallen from 150 seconds in 2004 to 47 seconds in 2024 (Mark, UC Irvine). The information load students are expected to retain has never been higher. And the gap between how people are told to study and how the brain actually encodes memory has never been wider.

We think the right tool, at the right time, can close that gap for a lot of people. Dialed is our attempt.
